There were two attempts to hold a track meet, but both times were postponed due to inclement weather for the Tigers. But there were still plenty of highlights from this week's Adele.
Youth soccer (2-0)
Two games into the season, the Tigers already have two big wins.
First, on March 28, ADM got off to a solid start in the Raccoon River Conference with a 2-1 win over North Polk. It's usually a close game against the Comets, with each of the last three years decided by one goal. This is their seventh straight win against North Polk, and this time they will need two second-half points to take the lead.
Throughout the first half, the Tigers struggled to get a shot on goal. ADM's defense also allowed only four shots, with only one hitting the net. Therefore, in the defensive battle, Peyton Meyer's golden feet were the key to breaking through. Meyer missed just two hits and connected on both RBIs, starting the season with a perfect 2-for-2 record.
Meyer's heroics continued into Monday, when the Tigers continued on the road for a 2023 state qualifier against Perry.
With both teams scoring in the first period and the game tied 1-1, Meyer broke the deadlock in overtime, converting a shot and a penalty, becoming the team's only scorer so far this season. finished. Rylan Stein-Smith came in with an assist. Meanwhile, the defense got a boost from goaltender Owen Evans, who blocked 10 of Perry's shots.
Women's soccer (0-2)
After starting the season with a 4-0 loss to Norwalk, the Tigers hosted North Polk on March 28, and the Comets finished with a 4-2 record. But the Tigers scored twice, posting a high score against a program that hasn't missed a state tournament appearance since 2013.
Jada Grove, who contributed to both of the Tigers' points, connected on one shot and assisted Brenna Seidl on the other. New goaltender Alena Freeman saved 16 shot attempts to keep the Comets from scoring.
boys truck
If the football season wasn't proof enough, the Tigers have elite sprinters in Brevin Dole and Aiden Flora. Dole won the Earlham 100-meter dash in 10.95 seconds, and Flora won the gold medal in Winterset with a time of 11.06 seconds. Dole also won the 200-meter dash in 22.52 seconds. Both of his times were better than his junior year, before he was injured playing football.
girls track
The Tiger girls dominated Earlham on March 28, leaving nine event wins on the Cardinals' record books.
Perhaps the biggest victory of all was shot putter Kennedy Stanford, who took first place with a personal record of 36 feet and 1/10. Not only was this more than 7 feet ahead of second place, but it was also more than 3 feet better than his personal best from last season.
More than just individual wins, the Tigers showed true teamwork with wins in the 4×100 shuttle hurdles, 4×200, 4×400, sprint medley, and 4×800 sprint medley relay. The 4x100m team won the silver medal.
