Happy Easter Sunday, Husky fans. The Huskies received a verbal commitment last week from one of their top running back targets, Julian McMahan of Cal State Monte Vista HS. I was able to speak with the three-star running back about why he decided to commit to UW.
UWDP: Why did you decide to make UW your passion school?
I decided to commit to UW because I felt it was the best decision for me. The staff at the University of Washington has shown me support and love since the beginning of my recruitment. The University of Washington is a great school that offers great academic and athletic opportunities. It felt right.
UWDP: Have you seen UW? If so, what did you think of your visit?
I went to the UW vs. Oregon game last year at Husky Stadium. It was a great visit, great facilities and a great match day atmosphere. It has received enthusiastic support from fans.
UWDP: What other schools were you considering besides UW?
I was considering California, Oregon, and San Diego State.
UWDP: What are your first impressions of the university's new staff?
I've known them since they offered me an offer to Arizona, so I have a very good impression of them. I have great relationships with all of my staff and have great confidence in them.
UWDP: Are you planning to recruit any other colleagues in Seattle??
yes! ! I will do my best to create magic ☔️
UWDP: How would you describe yourself as a player and who do you comp your game for?
I would describe myself as an all-around back (run, block, pass, etc.). I'm a smooth runner and compare myself to Eric Dickerson.
The Huskies' staff is looking to acquire two running backs in the 2025 class, and McMahan should fit into a bruising back style (think Dillon Johnson). McMahan has a teammate, three-star tight end Kellan Ford, who is also being scouted by college (he is strongly considering college, but is considering Cal and Arizona as well).
Over the next few months, the visitor list will continue to grow and several players will be added to the list.
Vander Ploeg, a four-start tight end from Troy, Calif., HS, is scheduled to visit UW during spring game weekend. Rated as the 13th-best tight end in the 2025 class, Ploog also has eyes on Utah State, ASU and California. The Huskies will get the first crack at making an impression on Prug. The Huskies are looking to pursue two tight ends in the 2025 class, and Ploeg and Ford are both scheduled to visit on the same weekend (which may be the first time it determines who gets the spot).
Champ Taurealea, a four-star offensive lineman from California Valley Christian HS, is also scheduled to visit UW the weekend of May 3 (spring game weekend). Rated as the 14th best Interior offensive lineman in the 2025 class, Taureale is one of the West Coast's top offensive linemen in the 2025 class, and the Huskies are battling USC for his commitment. (They get the first chance to make a good impression on his play) visit).
More names will be added to the visitor list over time, but for now, the weekends of May 3, May 31, and June 21 are shaping up as major recruiting weekends (247sports 27 visitors registered via). Coach Fisch is trying to get a big crowd at Husky Stadium and make a good impression on the many new recruits. If he is nearby, I recommend going to the game.
Today is up to here. As always, follow @asieverkropp.
