WINONA, Texas โ Winona ISD trustees appointed a new athletic director and head football coach at Thursday's board meeting.
Kenneth Cook, who has been “an integral part of Winona High School” for the past seven years, has been officially named the next athletic director and head football coach with unanimous support.
Mr. Cook began teaching and coaching at Chapel Hill High School, where he spent eight years. During his tenure, he served as an assistant coach and special teams coordinator. He was instrumental in his football program's victories, including his 2011 3A Division 1 football state championship win and the 2010 state runner-up title.
At Winona High School, Cook has served as defensive coordinator, head track coach and U.S. history instructor. While he was defensive coordinator, the football team reached the state quarterfinals in his 2016 year, which matched the best playoff appearances in school history.
In 2023, under Cook's guidance, the Winona 4×4 meter relay team qualified for the state tournament.
Cook graduated from Gilmer High School. He and his wife Dana have three children.
