Chaos plays home games at Xtream Arena
CEDAR RAPIDS โ The Cedar Rapids River Kings will not be the only indoor football team in the state for the 2025 American Indoor Football League season.
Indoor soccer is coming to the Iowa City area with the Coralville Chaos set to join the league next season. The team was officially announced at a press conference on Thursday.
Home games will be held inside Xtream Arena.
The majority owner will be Dominic Montero, who is also the principal owner of the River Kings.
“The heart of football in the Midwest is in Iowa City,” Montero said.
Montero feels strongly that Iowa City is the perfect fit for a new indoor football team, just as he did when he brought the River Kings back to Cedar Rapids.
He said the team name (Chaos) helps capture the excitement that indoor football brings.
“Chaos really describes the game of indoor football and what we want to bring to our opponents,” Montero said.
The River Kings are now 1-1 after defeating the Missouri Falcons 87-14 and losing to the Colorado Spartans 35-26 in their first two non-league games.
Next up is their final non-league game against the Newton Knight Hawks on Saturday night at the Alliant Energy Powerhouse.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
โWe want to use these games as an adjustment to prepare for the league and see where we are,โ Montero said. “Colorado was a great test for us, especially without starting kicker and star player Ricky Neal Jr.”
The River Kings' first league game will be played on April 6th at the Harrisburg Stampede, and their home league opener will be May 10th against the Mississippi Raiders.
