A previously undiscovered Super Famicom game prototype rockman soccer It was recently published online at The Cutting Room Floor, revealing some new insights into the project's development (as discovered by Mega Man News site Mega Man Corner!).
Rockman Soccer (known in Japan as Rockman Soccer) is a soccer game developed by Sun L and published by Capcom. This game was released in North America and Japan in his 1994 year (but unfortunately, at least as far as we know, this game has never been released in PAL regions).
The game is based on Capcom's Mega Man series of action platformers, and allows players to choose from a variety of characters from previous NES games, including Mega Man, Proto Man, Dr. Wily, and several Robot Masters. They can then participate in different soccer modes, alone or with friends.
As The Cutting Room Floor points out, the brand's Japanese sample build was discovered and submitted by an individual named C. Davis on March 25, 2024, and is an interesting change from the final release. Contains some. These include, among others, the presence of multi-tap support, which allows up to four players to play together, and the ability to set the length of the match to 60 minutes (the time limit for the final game is his 10 minutes).
Another interesting change is that Capcom Championship mode is also called Capcom World Cup mode in this early build. This may have changed in the final version, as British publisher US Gold still held worldwide rights to the “World Cup” name at the time.
A detailed breakdown of the buildover can be found at The Cutting Room Floor.
