The USA SPORTS Gilroy & Hollister competitive gymnastics team finished the 2009 competitive season on a high note with many of their teammates qualifying for the Northern California State Championships.
Aubrey Kaho finished the season as the Level 4 (11C) NorCal State Floor Champion. This is Aubrey's first year competing, and she has many more planned. Aubrey also placed third on bars. Sloan Pace, Felicia Markfied and Katarina Ji also qualified and competed in the Level 4 Northern California State Championships. It was a great season for the Level 4 team where he took home three of his 3rd place team trophies throughout the season. Other members of the team included Saradaik, Jacqueline Pantin, Marin Plaza, and Luisa Mantella, who came much closer to qualifying for state with just her 10 minutes and her two point difference.
Kyrie Anderson, Marissa Oprey and Courtney Grow completed their Level 5 seasons and all qualified for the Zone 8 NorCal Championships.
Throughout the season, they achieved many personal goals and each competed in various events. USA Sports' Level 6 teams had their best season ever. They won one second place trophy and three first place trophies throughout the season. Colette Yamaoka, Taylor Lawrence, Megan Jellinek and Sophie Nye all qualified for the Zone 8 Norcal State Championships, with Colette Yamaoka taking second all-around with a score of 36.475. The team placed him fifth overall with Sophie Nai taking his first place with a 9.5 score and becoming the Zone 8 (Senior) NorCal Vault Champion.
A lot of time and effort goes into preparing for competitions. A competitive gymnast at USA Sports, he sometimes spends more than nine hours in the gym a week. Coaches help them focus on building strength, endurance, high-level skills, teamwork, and responsibility. USA Sports pre-teams and competitive teams, along with recreational gymnasts, are taught lifelong skills to become leaders and an example of hard work, dedication, and discipline. They also excel in school and community activities. Many recreational and competitive gymnasts also participate in choir, 4-H, cheerleading, track and field, theater, etc. They are also great examples of physical fitness. Taylor Lawrence, a Level 6 gymnast, was one of only two students in her high school gym class out of about 50 who were able to climb the rope, and she It's just that. USA Sports remains committed to developing strong, healthy gymnasts and looks forward to another great year in 2010.
