Just when everything seemed to be going well for Michigan football, everything comes crashing down.
The Wolverines are one week into spring ball, and the most important thing is that all players emerge unscathed and healthy and ready to participate in summer conditioning and then fall camp. However, one of the Maze and Blue's star players will reportedly not have that opportunity and is likely to leave after the 2024 season.
According to 247Sports' Matt Zenitz, senior safety Rod Moore (who made the game-clinching interception against Ohio State in 2023) suffered a torn ACL in practice and will not be able to play next season. It is said that there is a high possibility.
Moore, an Ohio native, returned for his senior season even though many believed he would likely enter the 2024 NFL Draft. With Moore back and fifth-year safety Makari Paige, Michigan's safety has looked solid, which may have contributed to Keon Sabu's transfer to Alabama.
The good news for Michigan is that Quinten Johnson went undrafted and is back for a sixth year. If he, Zeke Berry and Brandin Hillman can fill Moore's role, the Wolverines will be in a good position.
As for Moore, he will have to make a different decision. Is there a chance he can get better as soon as possible and return in late 2024? Do you sit back, rehab and focus on next season? Or, once he recovers, he could leave Michigan and try out for the NFL.
