The ninth-seeded Texas A&M Aggies are scheduled to face the top-seeded Houston Cougars on Sunday night at FedExForum in Memphis, looking for a big upset.
While many may think Texas A&M will lose badly to the Cougars, Houston head coach Kelvin Sampson said the Aggies will give his team everything he wants and more in Game 2. I believe it can be done.
In fact, Sampson believes the Aggies not only pose a big challenge for Houston, but also have enough talent to make it to the Final Four in Glendale, Arizona.
“If you look at the SEC right now, Texas A&M is probably the best team in the SEC right now,” Sampson said Saturday, via Travis L. Brown. “They're a team that can get to the Final Four. That's how strong they are.”
And given the Aggies' performance in Friday's opener against Nebraska, Sampson might be right.
The Aggies went on to defeat the Huskers 98-83 to advance to the second round, with six Aggies finishing the game in double figures. The A&M team was led by Wade Taylor IV, who had 25 points and five assists.
Meanwhile, Manny Obaseki added 22 points and Tyrese Radford had 20 points of his own, along with 10 rebounds and five assists. The Aggies also shot 49.3 percent from the floor and 56.5 percent from beyond the arc.
In other words, the Aggies are coming into their own at the right time.
Unfortunately for Texas A&M, they also have to contend with Houston, the No. 1 defense in the country that allows just 56.7 points per game while averaging 73.4 points.
The showdown between the Aggies and Cougars is scheduled for 7:40 p.m. on TNT.
