If there's one thing you can say about Endrick, Brazil's match-winner on a sleepy spring night at Wembley, it's that he's not going to hang around and wait. Timetables and calendars mean nothing to him. His body clock only has two times for him: now and next.
At the age of 15, Endrik was a standout player in Brazil's biggest under-20 tournament. He made his senior debut at Palmeiras in October 2022, two months after his 16th birthday. By the end of the year, he had won a Brazilian championship medal (later adding another medal to his collection) and signed with Real Madrid.
This was not his senior international debut. He came on as a substitute in a World Cup qualifier against Colombia in November, and came on from the bench five days later against Argentina. But this was his first match in Europe, and an opportunity to formally introduce himself in the region Brazilians call the Old Continent.
It is said that you only get one chance to make a first impression. Vinicius Junior's shot was saved by Jordan Pickford, who smashed the ball into an empty net before Endrick sank his shot. It wasn't a masterpiece, but the elation of talent being unleashed unfettered by normal laws was unmistakable.
It felt like a preview screening of history around the world.
