University of Michigan football defensive line coach Greg Scruggs has resigned, the school announced Thursday.
Scruggs was arrested by Ann Arbor police around 3 a.m. Saturday for operating a vehicle while intoxicated and was suspended indefinitely the same day.
“I have just received notice that Greg Scruggs will be resigning effective immediately,” head coach Sherone Moore said in a statement released Thursday morning. “As this is a university matter, we cannot comment further.”

Moore confirmed the arrest hours after the news became public, saying Scruggs, 33, made an “unfortunate mistake” and that Scruggs took responsibility for his actions.
Scruggs was arrested in Kentucky in 2011, when he was a senior on the Louisville football team, after he veered off the road and hit a utility pole, according to reports.
He was released from the team before the bowl game against North Carolina State. At the time, Moore was also at Louisville, in his final season as a graduate assistant before becoming the tight ends coach.
Scruggs is part of a completely revamped defensive coaching staff after coaching the same position at Wisconsin last year. Prior to arriving at Wisconsin, Scruggs spent the 2022 season as the New York Jets' defensive line coach.
The University of Michigan's spring football practice begins Monday, and Moore is scheduled to meet with the media in his first official capacity since his head coaching press conference in late January.
If found guilty, an OWI violation can include up to three months (93 days) in jail, a $500 fine, community service, or suspension of your driver's license.
