Greater Middlesex Conference Season Review, 2023-24
player of the year
Ryan Lucco, Woodbridge Colonia Iselin Kennedy
Although the trio wasn't able to book a round-trip trip to the Prudential Center, they still got to see history being made. After three great seasons, Lukko was looking to accomplish something that hadn't been accomplished this century, and he never succumbed to the pressure. He reached the 50-goal mark for the third consecutive season, scoring 84 total points and surpassing 300 points in his career.
He becomes the sixth player in New Jersey high school hockey history to accomplish this feat, and the first in more than 20 years. Rucko went on to score 17 points and finished his career with 317 points, the second-highest total in state history.
Coach of the Year
Kevin Felice, Monroe
Complete the Falcons boss twice in a row. Felice was chosen for the spot a season ago after leading Monroe to a 17-6-2 record. He did an even better job this time. Monroe finished with a record of 21-4-1 and was finally able to claim the elusive Kolodny Cup title with a win over St. Joseph (Mes.).
Felice once again pushed all the right buttons, helping the team finish in the final top 20 and seeing several players enjoy career seasons.
team of the year
monroe
The Falcons were simply tired of falling just short of a Kolodny Cup title. He was a mainstay in the finals, but hasn't won a single game since 2018. This year's team was finally able to end the drought. Aiden Grinspan, Nicolas Izzo and Cameron Schwartz were more than capable most nights, combining for 68 goals and 98 assists.
The trio carried the team to a victory over St. Joseph (Meteor Region) in the Kolodny Cup final, ultimately bringing the team within one win of advancing to the regional finals. A great 2023-24 season ended with a matchup against eventual state runner-up Manalapan in the South Jersey Public Semifinals.
