NJIIHL Season Review, 2023-24
player of the year
Alex Ebel, Westfield
A second-team all-state selection, Ebel's ability to impact the game on both ends of the ice was the biggest difference in Westfield's season. After a slump around New Year's, Ebel moved from center to defense and turned the Blue Devils' blue line unit into one of the best in the state, becoming one of the best presences on the power play in the NIIHL. . He played quarterback in a man-up unit.
Coach of the Year
Travis DiLello, Governor of Livingston, New Providence
There's something to be said for a coach who has led a team to three consecutive state championship games, and no other coach in the state has accomplished it as recently as DiLello. DiLello, who previously served as co-head coach, assumed most of the head coaching duties this season and helped put together another successful season for Livingston-New Providence. Another 20-plus win campaign should be just another building block for a team looking to graduate an impactful senior class.
team of the year
westfield
Westfield showed what it can do in the Union County Tournament final by holding Governor Livingston-New Providence to just 15 shots and steamrolling toward a 4-0 victory. The Blue Devils rode a wave of momentum for weeks after that win, ultimately winning another MacInnis Cup title. Westfield allowed only two goals from January 12th to February 29th, resulting in a season-ending loss. Despite that defeat, it completed an incredible run.
