MCSSIHL Season Review, 2023-24
player of the year
Luke Dickerson, Morris Knolls Hills
In a conference that features so many dynamic scoring options, Dickerson stands out the most thanks to his perennial performance in the postseason and Cinderella run to the Public Co-op state title at Morris Knolls Hills. I was there. Dickerson was one of only two reliable scoring options on the roster as the Golden Eagles struggled throughout the regular season. As the state tournament approached, he stepped up his game even more, leading the No. 6 seed Golden Eagles to the title. He scored 17 points in five playoff games and had four straight hat tricks from the first round of the division to the division finals. He finished the year with 38 goals and 58 points, including 13 goals and 17 points at the state tournament.
Coach of the Year
Tim Kepler, Morris Knolls Hills
Kepler has been at the helm at Morris Knolls Hills for a long time, winning the last two state titles, but this year's performance may be his most impressive coaching performance to date. As the calendar turned to late February and the games really started to matter, Kepler stuck with his lineup, which included a freshman goaltender, and believed he would come through in the end. Little did he know it would lead to a state title, but now Kepler has added another ring to his collection.
team of the year
randolph
Although they ultimately fell short of the state title, the Rams finished the season ranked 11th with a record of 22 wins, 1 loss, and 1 record. Randolph has long been the top-ranked public program in the state thanks to an undefeated record and the state's best defensive and scoring units. The Rams dominated their opponents en route to the Mennen District title and Mennen Cup title, and head coach Rich McLaughlin also achieved his 500th career win this season. The Rams return a ton of talent and could be just as strong next year.
