ST. Cloud, MN โ Western Michigan University called off the final game of its series against St. Cloud State University on Sunday night at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. The Broncos lost with a final score of 5-1.

first period
Even though WMU made a flurry of shots to take the lead, it was the Huskies who got on the scoreboard first, scoring just over three minutes into the game. From there, the Broncos turned their attention to SCSU netminder Isaac Poche, but found nothing in the back of the net as the game approached the midway point of the first frame.
St. Cloud State scored another goal just over nine minutes into the game, extending the lead to 2-0. A few minutes later, the lead increased to 3-0. However, the Brown and Gold countered with a goal by Costantini less than 30 seconds later.
Vento fed Costantini on target and ripped Posh's shot to bring WMU back within two points. The Broncos ended the period with this look on their face. alex bump, Cedric Fiedler and Daniel Hilsendergerbut SCSU carried a 3-1 lead into the second frame.
Second period
The Broncos earned a slashing penalty early in the middle frame, which allowed SCSU to cash in and make it 4-1. Next, Mr. Bump, carter burger and Sam Colangelo They all looked good online, but none beat Posh.
In the second half, WMU got its first power play of the night. Posh narrowly converted Colangelo's one-time shot to keep the score at 4-1. A few minutes later, Colangelo again hit the crossbar with a chance ring.
SCSU added another point late in the second half to take a 5-1 lead heading into the final 20 minutes.
third period
Western Michigan got a power play in the opening minutes thanks to a cross-checking penalty against the Huskies. Colangelo had a great chance with a save by Posh, and SCSU finally got back to full strength.
As the game moved into the second half of the third period, St. Cloud State had a power play of its own. However, the Broncos outscored the Huskies during that period.
In the closing stages, WMU negated two penalty kicks, but SCSU won 5-1.

Western Michigan is waiting to see if it will make the NCAA Tournament. Rankings will be announced on Sunday, March 24th. If the Broncos qualify for the national tournament, it will be their third consecutive appearance.
