Cypress football coach Rick Feldman told the Centurions on Friday that he will “fight to stay” after receiving a reduction in force (RIF) notice from the Anaheim Union High School District this week.
Feldman, who was named the Register's Orange County Coach of the Year in 2021, said late last week that he was alerted by the district that he would receive a RIF notice. He said he received his termination notice on Monday.
Feldman, a health teacher with 22 years of experience in the district, said her employment at Anaheim Union could be terminated at the end of the school year if the RIF notice is not rescinded.
Feldman said he has not resigned as Cypress' football coach and continues to oversee offseason training.
“I'm going to stay and fight to be Cypress' football coach,” he said. “I'm not blaming anyone. … I've worked hard to build this program.”
Feldman led Cypress to four league championships, two CIF-SS runner-up finishes and four semifinal appearances in nine seasons. His record is 77 wins and 37 losses.
Feldman said he has received coaching interest from other schools as well.
He was named the Chargers' OC Coach of the Year in 2022 and led the North team to the Orange County All-Star Game in 2023.
