Syracuse, N.Y. — Former Syracuse football coach Doug Marrone will reportedly join the coaching staff under first-year head coach Bill O'Brien at Boston College.
ESPN's Pete Thamel reported that Marrone will be hired as BC's senior analyst for soccer strategy and research.
Marrone and O'Brien worked together on former Alabama coach Nick Saban's staff in 2021. O'Brien served as the team's offensive coordinator and Marrone served as the offensive line coach.
Marrone served as the offensive line coach for the New Orleans Saints for the past two years, but was fired after last season. O'Brien took the job at Boston College after spending a season as the New England Patriots' offensive coordinator. The BC position was filled after head coach Jeff Hafley accepted the coordinator job with the Green Bay Packers.
Marrone coached Syracuse from 2009 to 2012, finishing his four-year tenure with a 25-25 record. He took over the program after a three-win season under former coach Greg Robinson and restored his credibility by leading the Orange to two bowl appearances. He was also an offensive lineman at Syracuse before being selected in the 1986 NFL Draft.
Marrone, who famously called Syracuse his “dream job,” left school to coach in the NFL, leading the Buffalo Bills for two seasons and the Jacksonville Jaguars for five seasons.
Syracuse is scheduled to play at Boston College on Nov. 9.
