Police have arrested a Madison man on suspicion of threatening the judge and jury in the trial of a man convicted in a downtown St. Louis crash that left a Tennessee volleyball player missing both legs last year. .
Eric M. Buntin, 34, of the 800 block of Iowa Street, Madison, was arrested Thursday and charged Friday with misconduct to a judicial officer, according to authorities and charging documents. is a serious crime.
On Thursday, after Daniel Riley, 22, was found guilty of injuring Janae Edmondson, a deputy in the courtroom hallway said Buntin “(expletive) said the judge, the jury, the outside… I heard someone say, “Everyone you see on the street is a racist.'' , I'm going to (expletive) kill them,'' according to authorities and court records.
According to a probable cause statement filed Friday, Buntin uttered “an abusive language that could be heard in the courtroom” before entering the hallway.
Buntin was being held at the St. Louis City Jail on Friday. His arrest warrant states that he has not been granted any bail.
Buntin's court records do not list an attorney.
Edmondson, who was a high school senior at the time of the accident, was injured on February 18, 2023, after leaving the dome where she was participating in a volleyball tournament.

Riley was charged with two counts of reckless driving that resulted in the amputation of Janae Edmonson's leg, one count of fourth-degree assault for his role in the crash that injured another person, and one count of driving without a valid license. He was convicted of first degree assault and armed criminal action. said a prosecutor's news release.
Jurors sentenced Riley to approximately 19 years in prison. Circuit Judge Michael Noble set sentencing for April 18.
