John Moring, Savannah Country Day's head football coach for the past three seasons, has resigned to become the new head coach of the Wayne County football program, according to Dennis Knight of the Savannah Morning News. It is said that he did.
Mohring compiled a 16-16 record while head coach at Savannah Country Day, making the playoffs twice during his tenure. The Hornets lost in the second round of the Class A Private Division in 2021 and lost in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs last season.

In his three seasons as the Hornets' head coach, Mohring's Savannah Country Day teams have improved year after year, scoring more points and not giving up as many points, while improving their record year after year. In 2021, his first season with the program, the Hornets went 4-7, scoring just 229 points and giving up 302 points. In 2023, he was 7-4, he scored 380 points, and only conceded 197, so their progress was remarkable.
The former Savannah Country Day head coach will now take over a Wayne County team in 2023 that finished with a 7-4 record and lost in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs. The Yellow Jackets finished the season with 10 wins for the first time in 2022 since 2018, when they went 11-1 and won the Region 2 Class 5A championship.
Moring will replace former Wayne County head football coach Jaybo Shaw, who resigned in February 2024 to fill the head coaching vacancy at Greenville High School.
