Boone, North Carolina – App State head volleyball coach Sarah Rumeli Noble has announced a trip to Europe for mountaineers this summer. This will be the first overseas expedition in the program's history.
The Mountaineers will travel across the ocean from May 31st to June 11th, stopping in eight cities and playing four to five games against teams from various countries along the way.
“I'm so excited to announce my trip abroad this summer, which I've been working hard to make happen since I've been here,” said Rumeli Noble. “We are grateful to the government for coming on board and to all the donors and friends of the program who have worked so hard to make this possible.The opportunity to take our players to a new country and experience a different culture This trip will not only help our program by playing against different teams this summer, but also build friendships for the 2024 season. Prague, also known as the City of a Hundred Towers, was the ancient capital of Charles IV's Bohemian kingdom and played an important role in the development of Central Europe dating back to the Middle Ages. The climbers will spend the day touring Prague Castle. This castle was probably built around 880 by Prince Bozhvoy of the Premysli dynasty. The castle is the largest continuous castle complex in the world, according to Guinness World Records, and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Climbers will have the opportunity to explore the Old Town Square, or Staroměstské naměstí in Czech, which was founded in the 12th century and served as the city's main market for over 1,000 years. On June 7, the climbers will depart for Ljubljana, Slovenia, stopping at Lake Bled, where they will have lunch and spend the afternoon on the lake. Climbers can swim in the lake to reach the island. The island has 99 steps from the dock to the top where the Church of the Assumption is located.
During the Year of the Dragon, mountaineers can explore the Dragon City in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Ljubljana is located between Vienna and Venice, which is represented by the Three Bridges. Climbers can explore Ljubljana's city center, Prešernov Square, which includes the Franciscan Church, the monument to the poet Frans Prešeren, and the Triple Bridge. After crossing the Sanbonbashi Bridge, you will find the Central Market and Dragon Bridge.

Climbers have the opportunity to tour Venice, take a water taxi or walk to St. Mark's Square, also known as St. Mark's Square. The square is home to St. Mark's Basilica, and its attractions include: It has 8,000 square meters of mosaics, a viewing platform in the square, and houses the bones of St. Mark. Climbers can also explore the Palazzo Ducale (Doge's Palace), which was the main political and judicial center of the Venetian government until the Republic of Venice. It fell in 1797.

On June 9th, the Mountaineers will travel to Verona and Lake Como. Verona, located between Venice and Milan, is best known for Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Once home to the Capello family, one of Shakespeare's inspirational families, Juliet's House is a popular spot where people can pose on the balcony or in the courtyard. He is also famous for replying to a letter addressed to Juliet by the Juliet Club, which was the inspiration for the 2010 film Letters to Juliet. Verona is also known as the “Gateway to Italy” and is one of Italy's oldest cities.
Lake Como, Lake Como, or Lake Lario, is the third largest lake in Italy. Lake Como is home to several villages, including Bellagio, Varenna, and Como, with villas, beaches, botanical gardens, and more to explore.
