Drake was a three-sport athlete who participated in football, wrestling, and track at East Nashville High School. He believed it was the discipline he developed then that helped him embrace leadership roles, especially with the Gray Eagles football team, and rise through the ranks in the Metropolitan Police Department, where he was named chief in 2020.
Drake was a two-way starter at offensive guard and defensive end. He served as team captain every year from middle school through high school except for his sophomore season.
As a captain, Drake once kicked East's starting quarterback off the team because he didn't believe certain drills needed to be executed properly.
Drake demonstrated outstanding leadership skills on the wrestling team that coaches could not believe. Charlie Dahlgrenhad just taken over the program and named Drake an assistant coach. Dahlgren compensated Drake by paying for his tuxedo for prom.
After playing football for one semester at Middle Tennessee State University, Drake decided to leave the team to work part-time to care for his family. His father was blind and his mother was disabled.

Thirteen people were selected for the Vanderbilt Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2024, which was inducted over the weekend.

Vanderbilt's Frank Secker is an SEC legend.
Vanderbilt is a former Commodores guard. frank secker Recognized as an SEC Legend at the SEC Basketball Tournament. The tournament will be held at Bridgestone Arena from March 13th to 17th.
Secker, who played from 1993 to 1996, was second-team All-SEC as a senior and third-team All-SEC as a junior. He also captained the Commodores during his junior and senior seasons. He totaled 1,317 points and 214 stolen bases, which tied program records.
Secker will be recognized during halftime of Vanderbilt's first game of the tournament.

Sports card and memorabilia show comes to Gallatin
A sports card and memorabilia show is scheduled for March 23 at American Legion Post 17 in Gallatin.
Admission is free and the show runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The show includes cards and memorabilia from football, basketball, baseball, hockey, NASCAR, soccer, wrestling and more.
