Morris Knolls Hills defeated two-time defending champion New Providence Gov. Livingston 4-3 on Monday afternoon in the NJSIAA Public Corps final at the Prudential Center in Newark, defeating an unlikely state champion. Made it to the championship.
This was the third state title for the Morris Knolls Hills co-op and the fifth state title for the Morris Knolls program overall. The last time he won the title was in 2020.
Here are our three star picks for the game.
First Star: Eli Singley, Morris Knolls-Hills
The senior chose the best time for his first goal of the season and second goal of his career. He was in perfect position to tip home a pass from Michael Simone, giving Knolls Hills the lead with 38 seconds left in regulation on the way to winning the state championship.
Second star: Jake MacLeod, Morris Knowles-Hills
MacLeod finished with a goal and an assist, scoring the game-tying goal with 9:14 left in the game, giving his team the momentum they needed to come back from a two-goal deficit.
Third star: Nick Trent, Morris Knolls Hills
The freshman, who didn't take over as the team's starting goal until late December, capped off a strong run at the state tournament with a solid performance Monday. He stopped 30 of 33 shots on the biggest stage of his career to date, keeping his team alive even when they were down 3-1 in the second period.
