There's no shortage of options in the golf apparel market, but one up-and-coming brand is looking to differentiate itself by turning to Mother Nature.
Founded in 2021, UK-based company Reflo describes itself as “sustainable performance wear” specializing in athleisure and golf apparel. At first glance, its online catalog reveals a collection of familiar silhouettes, including zips, hoodies, polos, and T-shirts for the fashion-forward quarter, but it's the construction of Reflo's garments that sets the brand apart. It is something that becomes.
The technical fabrics used in each item are made from recycled waste materials such as single-use plastics and coffee beans, with the aim of not only minimizing Reflo's environmental impact, but also improving its environmental impact. It is being With every purchase, the company helps fight deforestation by sponsoring tree planting in countries like Madagascar and Mozambique.
Reflo's commitment to sustainability extends beyond its apparel line. The brand also partners with other companies that share its green ethos, from logistics and packaging practices to minimizing textile waste during production. Reflo's 'Reloop' collection is the golf industry's first circular apparel solution, consisting of a range of apparel designed to be recycled after use.
Earlier this year, British footballer Harry Kane became the brand's lead investor and is currently Reflo's global golf ambassador. He introduced the garment at the inaugural Icons Series golf event in June 2022 at Liberty National in New Jersey.
“I really liked the fit,” Kane told GOLF.com. “So I started getting to know them a little bit more.”
Kane then met Rory Macfadyen, the founder of Reflo.
“The relationship grew from there,” he said. “And obviously, when we started understanding sustainability, what they were trying to do with their products, how they made their products, that was really interesting. About that. I want to learn more and know more.”
Macfadyen added of the partnership with Kane's team: “They truly believe in changing the game when it comes to sustainability and performance in the sport.”
For Kane, that awareness also comes from one of his other important roles: raising his four children with his wife, Katie.
“I’m starting to think about what the future holds, not just for me but for them as well,” he said. “When I choose a brand, or when I consider brands that I want to align with, I want those brands to share similar values to me. When it comes to sustainability, I'm no expert. I still don't. I'm going to learn about it and find out about it, and I think Reflo is helping me with that.
“If there's something I can do, even if it's just a little bit, I want to be able to look back and say, 'I did what I could.'”
