ITHACA, N.Y. – The No. 6 ranked Cornell University women's ice hockey team defeated the world's No. 6 ranked women's ice hockey team. In the ECAC hockey quarterfinal series, the ninth-place Quinnipiac Bobcats won 3-2 in overtime at Lina Rink to take a 1-0 lead. The Big Red improved to 23-6-1 on the year, while the Bobcats fell to 25-10-1.

The Big Red was furious with the puck in the opening period and appeared to put an extra step on the Bobcats throughout the frame. The games were evenly matched with 12 total shots on goal, but Big Red converted two of them.
Schiff put Cornell in with a heads-up rebound in front of the net in the fifth minute. Five minutes later, Daniel sliced through Bobcat defenders and found Delianedis lurking in the frame to extend the lead to two points.
Quinnipiac managed to score two goals in the second frame. The first goal was scored on a direct faceoff as the Bobcats scored their first goal of the contest. For the second goal, the Bobcats were relentless in front of the net, eventually scoring a point and tying the score at 2-2.
The final period ended scoreless for both teams.Towards the end of the period, some sequences from the Big Red net-minder Anneliese Bergman Saved the game for Cornell University. The first of two occurred when a Bobcat skater was in front of the net and he failed to convert three close-range chances. The second goal came from Steigauf from close range with 28 seconds left, but Bergman denied it, sending the game into overtime.
The Big Red had the best job for them as they started the overtime period with a skater down. grace dwyer Called for hook violation. Seconds later, Quinnipiac goaltender Logan Anges made a critical mistake by leaving the crease, allowing Prefontaine to score the game-winner with a one-time shot from a tough angle between the pipes.
Bergman made 31 saves in the game, earning him his first career postseason win. She improved to 18-6-1 between the pipes this year.
