High school girls soccer: Hornets top Mustang

GRANITE QUARRY โ The Salisbury girls soccer team defeated East Rowan 4-0 on Thursday.
The Hornets (1-0-1) held Trinity in a scoreless tie in the opening game, but Jamillet Figueroa scored his first goal of the season off an assist from Cora Wimbs.
Figueroa assisted on Addie Griffith's goal for a 2-0 lead.
Stephanie Quintero's first career goal made it 3-0 at halftime. Assisted by Griffith.
Quintero assisted on Muddy Crabbe's breakthrough goal in the second half.
The defense of Meredith Williams, Laura Koontz, Stella Koontz, Luna Nunez and keeper Brianna Figueroa earned the shutout victory.
The game's best player was Tiffany Huerta, who battled for 80 minutes in the midfield with East freshman Arden Miller and striker Lillian Jeffers, a senior transfer from Arizona State.
“These two rookies are going to be outstanding players,” SHS coach Matt Parrish said.
Jeffers scored both goals in East's 2-0 (1-1) win over North Stanly.
The Hornets will have a week off next season for spring break. Salisbury will return to action on March 12th at home against AL Brown.

AL Brown defeated Carson and South Rowan defeated West Rowan in the Rowan Cup semifinals Thursday in Carson.
West Rowan defeated North Rowan 7-0 to open the five-team tournament.
On Friday, Carson will play West in the third-place game at 5 p.m., while AL Brown will face South Rowan in the championship game at 7 p.m.
