Bears defeat No. 10 Long Beach State 3-1
Gulf Shores, Alabama – The Golden Bears have advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championship for the second year in a row.
On Friday afternoon, the No. 7 Cal State beach volleyball team defeated No. 10 Long Beach State, 3-1, to win the second NCAA championship in program history. The Bears defeated Beach in last year's season opener, and Cal will take on No. 2 UCLA in a quarterfinal rematch tomorrow at 9 a.m. PT on ESPN2 in hopes of advancing to 2023 and beyond. .
With all five pairs playing at the same time, the action moves quickly at Gulf Shores. Cal (22-13) took advantage of the first set by winning three in five minutes. Shortly after, the Bears won on courts 5 and 2 to take a 2-0 lead.

A combination of newcomers and veterans emma donley and graduate students Kendall Peters made their NCAA Championship debut with a 21-17, 21-9 victory on Court 2. Donley had an error-free 10-0-16 performance, hitting .625 and scoring a team-high five runs. Peters posted a .722 clip with 14 kills and seven digs.
Despite the Bears leading 2-0, momentum began to tilt toward Beach (28-10) after taking the first set on Courts 1 and 3 and the third set on Court 5. Long Beach State won on Court 1 and quickly cut the lead in half.
The third set must be won by Court for Duos. jenna corrigan and Portia Sherman He jumped out to an overwhelming lead. The two sophomores scored double points in the next rally with Corrigan's powerful cross-court attack and a wide attack from Beach, sealing California's victory. Corrigan finished with 16 kills and eight digs, while Sherman added 14 kills, five digs and two aces.
