In a competitive doubleheader, the 6th Battalion, 56th Air Defense Artillery, emerged victorious, defeating the 582nd Medical Logistics Company, 61st Multifunctional Medical Battalion, 1st Medical Brigade, and defended its title as intramural soccer champions for the second year in a row. -2 April 30th at Phantom Warrior Stadium.
6-56 ADAR entered the first game undefeated, hoping to defeat No. 582 MLC and take home the trophy. However, the 582nd MLC had other plans and defeated ADAR 6-56, 3-2.
It looked like the 582nd MLC would win the second game as they held the lead for most of the match. However, 6-56 ADAR made a comeback in the second half and regained the title.
Staff Sergeant Kemar Daly (6-56 ADAR) said he is participating in intramural soccer for the second time and is eager to win another championship title.
“This is my second year, but this year I had the opportunity to take over the team as captain,'' he said. “I wanted to do it again and I wanted to win this year too. That's what makes it fun and a good workout.”
Lt. Col. Callum Butler, 6-56 ADAR, said the team has a lot of talented players who rise to the challenge head-on, but he acknowledged the skills of the 582nd MLC as well.
“They were a really good team,” he said. “They challenged us. I think we challenged them too. We were able to outdo them.”
Butler and Dailey said intramural soccer allowed them to meet other Soldiers in their battalion they wouldn't normally interact with.
“This is my seventh year in the Army, and I think (intramural sports) is important because we don't meet every day as a battalion,” Dailey said. “If it wasn't for soccer, I wouldn't have met (these Soldiers). It really helps at the battalion level.”
Butler agreed.
“It helps build the team across the battalion. Like Daly said, (I) don't always work with him every day,” he said. “We don't always work with the other guys, but now we know their faces and we know we can trust them. And they trust us.”
2nd Lt. Elijah Madkins (ADAR 6-56) is new to the unit and said intramural soccer has helped him get to know his peers outside of work.
“As a new officer, I wanted to spend time with my soldiers outside of work and felt soccer was a good medium to do that,” he said. In the experience of victory. ”
