Jaelyn Matthews, one of the top offensive linemen in the country, announced his top six on Sunday. Among them, he included Rutgers football.
Rutgers was the first program Matthews offered when he was a freshman. He visited the Scarlet Knights in the fall for a win over Wagner.
4-star offensive tackle. Matthews is coming off a successful year at Toms River North (Toms River, New Jersey). He is ranked No. 88 nationally by ESPN and No. 75 by On3.
Last year, he was selected to play in the Under Armor All-America Game.
His top six, announced Sunday night, are Tennessee, Georgia, Maryland, Rutgers, Syracuse and Miami.
Rutgers is expected to receive an official visit from Matthews, who had to cancel his June plans due to scheduling conflicts. Last week, he gave an update on Rutgers' official visit:
“We still have a mid-week visit booked for them and we are looking into that. The recruitment process can be a bit difficult. Weekends are really the last time you can go on an official visit because of the dead period. I only have four weeks and I have prom one weekend, so I couldn't actually go that weekend, so I changed it up a little bit,” Matthews told Rutgers Wire on Feb. 27. Told.
“So, since I only have three weekends for official visits, I'm trying to figure out when Rutgers will book my first visit — probably during the weekdays. I play at that school. and want to be a hometown hero in New Jersey.
“To put Rutgers on the map nationally. They definitely got national attention in the game against Ohio State, and then they beat Miami in the bowl game. Since Greg Schiano got there, they've He's changed a lot. He's changed the program for the better and I'm happy for the team.”
Matthews began recruiting in September after spending most of the year at Penn State.
