GULF SHORES, Ala. โ Georgia State beach volleyball played its 2024 NCAA Championship opener Friday in Gulf Shores, losing 3-0 to third-seeded Stanford University in the round of 16 as the No. 14 seed in the tournament. With this loss, head coach Beth Ben Fleet and the Sandy Panthers defended their Sun Belt Conference Championship title, earned the team's fifth national tournament berth, and improved to a season finale of 26 wins. They will end 2024 with 13 losses.
Stanford took early leads on each court and won the first set in every position. Lila Bordis and Allie Keller, the AVCA top-flight winners fought in the second set but ultimately lost to their Cardinal opponents. Shortly after, the Ferrari sisters collapsed on Court 1, giving Stanford a 2-0 advantage. With matches remaining on courts 4 and 5, Stanford secured the dual with the win. The final record of 26-13 is the second-best winning record in program history and marks the eighth consecutive year GSU has recorded 20 or more wins.
