LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A 14-year-old boy was found dead after swimming in Silver Creek on Monday, police said.
New Albany Police Chief Todd Bailey said Andre Edwards Jr. was swimming in Silver Creek near Providence Way when he went underwater and did not resurface around 4 p.m. Fire and police departments from New Albany and Clarksville responded to the scene.
A search for the boy took place in a creek in southern Indiana for several hours.
Police said Edwards was swimming in Silver Creek when he attempted to jump off a dam and was caught by an undertow, trapping him underwater.
Rescue crews suspended their search in Silver Creek about 9:30 Monday night as darkness fell. Bailey said the search was expected to resume Tuesday morning.
Bailey said Edwards was found in Silver Creek in the Providence Way area, near the initial search area.
“As this investigation is ongoing, we will not speculate on the cause of death,” Bailey said. “The New Albany Police Department Criminal Investigations Division continues to investigate this matter.”
