Marshfield, Massachusetts For the first time in the history of the Norwich women's ice hockey team, a player has won both the conference's Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year awards in the same season, with the honor going to a first-year winger. Brooks' first season in the maroon and gold has been historic, finishing second to Casey Anderson '15 in goals and points by a freshman. In 2011-12, Anderson recorded 23 goals, 27 assists and 47 points in her first season. Brooks now has 20 goals, 17 assists and 37 points, all tops in the NEHC, and is rated +30.
Brooks leads off eight Cadets who were named all-conference, with blue linemen earning second-team honors. Neris Archambault (Pepperell, Massachusetts) Goalkeeper Leocadia Clark (Stowe, Vermont)two anchors of a defenseman who is one of the best scorers in the country. On the defensive end, Archambault scored a career-high three goals and played all over the place, while Clarke had a historic season in which he was third in program history in wins (37) and second in shutouts (18) while becoming just the third team to reach 1,000 career saves. This season, Clarke is second in the NEHC in both goals against average (1.10) and save percentage (.952).
In addition to these players, there were four teammates who were selected to the third team. After winning the NEHC regular season title, the Cadets will look to defend the Tony Mariano Cup in the NEHC Tournament, which begins on Saturday, February 17th, hosting Johnson & Wales at 3 p.m.
