CHICAGO (AP) — Nashville defenseman Walker Zimmerman was the only overage player named Wednesday to the U.S.' 25-man training camp roster ahead of the team's final pre-Olympic friendly against Japan on June 11 in Kansas City, Kansas.
The U.S. has qualified for the men's Olympic soccer tournament for the first time since 2008, playing its first match against host France on July 24, New Zealand three days later in Marseille, before concluding its first round match against Guinea in Saint-Etienne on July 30. Men's Olympic soccer is limited to players under the age of 23, with only three of each team's 18 members allowed to be over the age limit.
Zimmerman, 31, has 42 international appearances and played for the United States in the 2022 World Cup.
Of the 25 players selected by coach Marko Mitrovic, 19 have played for the senior national team, including defender Bryan Reynolds, midfielders Gianluca Busio and Tanner Tessman and forwards Paxtan Aaronson, Cade Cowell and Kevin Paredes.
Ten players come from Major League Soccer.
Among those left out were Chicago goalkeeper Chris Brady, Salt Lake midfielder Diego Luna and Dallas winger Bernard Kamungo.
