DUNCAN, S.C. (WSPA) – An Upstate graduate will host his annual football camp this weekend to give back to the community.
Rajai Harris is a 2020 graduate of James F. Burns High School. He currently plays as a running back at East Carolina University.
For the past three years, Harris has hosted an annual football camp at Barnes as a way to give back to the community and benefit pediatric cancer patients.
“I originally run camps for childhood cancer. My little cousin passed away from cancer in 2021,” Harris said.
“I have a friend whose brother beat cancer, so that's one of the big reasons. Another reason is I want to show kids that sports can change lives. ”
The camp will be held May 11th from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Vineless Freshman Academy for children ages 8 to 17. This camp is free for all participants to teach basic soccer skills and just have fun.
Soccer isn't the only thing taught during camp. “I try to teach my kids respect, leadership and other traits to keep them focused for the future,” Harris said.
Harris said there are plenty of soccer activities, but there are also other activities that help kids open up in different ways.
Donations received will be donated directly to Bi-Lo Charities Children Center.
