Gagne was selected in the sixth round (192nd overall) by the Lightning in the 2021 NHL Draft. He has appeared in 104 games with the Lightning, recording three goals and 28 assists for 31 points. As a junior in 2023-24, he was named to the Hockey East All-Star Third Team and was the runner-up for the Hockey East Defensive Defenceman of the Year award.

Prior to that, he played two seasons with the Leamington Flyers of the GOJHL, recording 39 goals, 74 assists and 113 points in 97 games.
