MARSHALL โ The Southwest Minnesota State University football team announced its 2024 schedule Friday afternoon. The Mustangs' schedule includes 10 Northern Sun intercollegiate games and one nonconference game against Nebraska-Kearney.
The Mustangs open the season at home against Minot State in the AG Bowl on September 7th. The Mustangs' home schedule also includes a game against Concordia St. Louis. Paul, Nebraska Kearney, Wayne State, Umaley, Winona State.
The Mustangs' game against Nebraska-Kearney will be the Mustangs' first non-conference home game since 2009, when they faced Black Hills State University (SD).
The Mustangs' home game against Wayne State will be this year's homecoming game, with kickoff scheduled for 5 p.m.
SMSU will play its first road game of the season against Bemidji State on September 14th. They also have road games against Minnesota Duluth, Northern State, MSU Moorhead and Sioux Falls.
SMSU is in its third season under head coach Scott Underwood. In his first season as head coach, the Mustangs lost all of their last six games, but went 4-7, and in his second year as head coach, they beat Sioux Falls in the final game of the season to close the gap by nine games. The result was 2 wins and 9 losses.
The only conference opponents the Mustangs are not scheduled to play this year are Augustana and Minnesota State.
