Corvallis, Oregon. – Oregon State women's soccer head coach Lauren Sinacola announced a number of changes to her coaching staff Friday, officially adding Austin Rios and promoting Grace Labadie to full-time assistant. Rios is completing a two-year stint at Western Oregon University and Labadie is completing his first season at OSU.
Labadie was originally hired before the start of the 2023 season and comes to Corvallis after spending the past three seasons as a coach on the club circuit. As a player, Labadie played college soccer for four seasons, the last three of which were at Western Michigan University, including his one season with Sinacola, where he led the Broncos' program.
The midfielder finished her WMU career with 12 goals and 19 assists and was someone Coach Sinacola made it a priority to keep on the staff.
“We are very excited to promote Grace to a new assistant position on our staff. She has had a tremendous impact on our players and the entire program over the last year,” said Sinacola. “Not only does she have a great connection with student-athletes and recruits, but she also brings a high soccer IQ that will continue to push us in the right direction. We look forward to having Grace as a great addition to our program.” I'm very fortunate to be able to continue to be involved in the program and the promotion is very nice.'' It's well-deserved. ”
Rios spent the past two seasons coaching goalies and defenders at Western Oregon. He helped a nationally ranked Wolves program that finished third in the GNAC in 2023 after one season in which he played an active role in the development of 2022 GNAC Defensive Player of the Year Hannah Rispler. Qualified for the conference playoffs.
“After our initial conversations, it was a no-brainer to add Austin to our coaching staff,” said Coach Sinacola. “He has the ability to work in any position on the field, but his main focus will be working with our defensive unit and I look forward to the energy he brings every day. We are confident that Austin's abilities will serve our program well in the future. ”
Prior to attending Western Oregon University, Rios coached at Adams State University for two seasons after his playing days, including stops at Mesa Community College and Adams State University, before joining Vancouver Victory. (EPLWA) and Sporting AZ FC (UPSL) for one season.
“I am very excited and deeply grateful for the opportunity to join the women's soccer program here at Oregon State University,” Rios said. “I look forward to working with this great staff and am excited to be fully committed to their success on and off the field.”
As part of the staff changes, Shinacora also announced that Beavers assistant Joshua Ross has resigned from his position to pursue other professional opportunities.
“We will miss Josh joining our program, but we are so grateful for everything he has done for all of us. He is a great coach and even more… He’s a great human being,” Sinacola said. “He can confidently say that Josh leaves Oregon State women's soccer in better shape than he was two seasons ago. We all wish him the best of luck in his next chapter.”
Beaver women's soccer will return to action this spring, with the team scheduled to play five games between April and May. More information about these games will be released at a later date.
