UCLA Bruins defensive end Laiatu Latu was shocked to hear his name called by the Indianapolis Colts, who selected him with the No. 15 pick in this year's NFL Draft, according to CNHI Sports Indiana's George. Bremer reported.
“Honestly, I didn't expect to be picked up by the Colts,” Latu said. “I didn't talk to them the whole time before the draft. Then I got a call from Indianapolis and I was like, 'Shit, my agent told me not to worry about the next two or three picks. “I thought. Then I got the call and I became Colt. ”
Latu was one of the best defenders in college football last season, helping turn around a middling UCLA offense and propelling the club to an 8-5 overall record.
“I'm a person who is comfortable in any uncomfortable situation,” Latu said of his playing style. “That's how I look at the pass rush. I have a lot of moves in my repertoire. There are three main moves, but when it comes to game time there are a lot of moves because you don't know what's going to happen. Once that muscle memory kicks in and you feel that discomfort, that's who I am as a pass rusher.
“It means the world to me, and I can't wait to get in the building and prove it,” Latu said of being the first defenseman drafted this year.
