CINCINNATI — A former Cincinnati Bengals running back and his family are mourning the death of their newborn son.

Giovani Bernard announced the death of his son Gabriel on social media on Wednesday.

“From the moment we knew you existed, you were loved, talked to every day, and had so many people praying for you,” he wrote on his Instagram account. “You have a strong heart, and from the moment our eyes met, you were very playful.''
Gabriel was Giovani and Chloe's second child. According to TMZ, the two married in 2019 and welcomed their first son, Julian, in 2021.
“We're grateful to be able to hug you and spend a little time together,” Bernard continued. “The moment was short but filled with a whirlwind of emotions. From pure joy at meeting each other for the first time to uncontrollable sadness. Mom, Dad and Jules love you very much, and you are going to… are also our little warriors. We love you, Gabriel.”

Giovani also thanked his wife Chloe.
“I couldn't imagine life without you. My wife, I'm especially grateful to call you. You're more amazing as a spouse, mother, and partner than I ever could have imagined. You are truly amazing. Our story continues.”
Bernard played seven seasons with the Bengals from 2013-2020 and two more seasons (2021-22) with the Tampa Buccaneers before retiring.
