The College Football Playoff Committee is meeting in Irving, Texas, ahead of the first college football season with an expanded 12-team playoff format.
According to ESPN's Heather Dinich, CFP Executive Director Bill Hancock said the 12-team playoffs are “on track” for this fall.
The top five teams in the conference and the next top seven teams will compete in the playoffs for the 2024 college football national title.
The Oregon Ducks will officially join the Big Ten Conference in August. Prior to last month's expansion of the CFP agreement, the NCAA was reportedly facing the possibility of its powerhouse conferences, the SEC and Big Ten, withdrawing from the postseason.
Under the new revenue model, the SEC and Big Ten will receive a combined 58% of all CFP revenue, Yahoo Sports' Ross Dellenger reported. This financial arrangement was key to keeping both conferences afloat.
Oregon will join the Big Ten in 2024, but won't receive full media rights right away. The Ducks will receive between $30 million and $35 million annually, while other Big Ten schools make about $60 million, according to ESPN. Oregon's share will increase by $1 million at the end of each of the Big Ten's seven-year television contracts with Fox, CBS and NBC. Oregon State will become a full member once the league agrees to its next media deal.
Also newsworthy from the CFP conference…ESPN says the Army-Navy game will not affect the selection committee's rankings. Army and Navy traditionally meet on the second Saturday in December, after the committee announces the 12-team playoff teams. Army and Navy are in the American Athletic Conference, so there is a chance they will remain in the playoff field, but the outcome of the December rivalry game will not affect them.
Will the CFP move to a 14-team system in 2026? There is no news yet from the committee meeting on that.
Oregon State coach Dan Lanning and the Ducks are preparing for their spring football game on Saturday, April 27th. This will be the first time transferred quarterback Dillon Gabriel will wear a Duck uniform.
