YAKIMA — Bremerton's record in state tournament basketball will fall just short of a championship game.
The Knights (20-7), who were even with defending state champion Linden until the final second in Friday night's 2A semifinal, couldn't find the basket on more than two possessions with a chance to win, 53-52. I was defeated.
The Knights had the ball for less than 15 seconds and had a chance to take the lead when a pass from Jalen Davis to Enoch Taylor turned the ball over. After Linden missed two free throws following a Knights foul, Bremerton came out of a timeout with six seconds left with a chance to advance to the state finals. Senior Trenton Bloomer took the ball from one end of the court to the other, but his off-balance shot fell just short of the frame just as the buzzer sounded, and the team huddled in the corner to find themselves in front of a handshake with the Lions. I comforted you.

Davis, a freshman who led the team all season, led all scorers with 33 points on 12-for-15 shooting, including a deep 3-pointer late in the fourth to tie the game. He scored 15 of the team's 19 first-quarter points and helped the Knights send the No. 1 seed Lions a notice of non-advancement for the No. 11 seed.
Bremerton will play for the trophy for the first time since 1999 when it plays the loser of the North Kitsap-Grandview game Saturday at 1 p.m.
North Kitsap Grandview was scheduled to start at the Yakima Sundome at 9 p.m.
