The National Drowning Prevention Alliance says formal swimming lessons can help reduce drownings by 88% in children ages 1 to 4.
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) – Registration for swim lessons opens on Monday, May 13th, with approximately 111 scholarships available to Yuma County residents for ages 6 months to 5 years.
The City of Yuma Parks and Recreation Department announced that classes will begin on Monday, June 3 at Marcus Pool, located at 545 West 5th Street, and Carver Pool, located at 1250 West 5th Street.
Lessons cost $28 for Yuma residents and $42 for non-residents.
The City of Yuma announced that the Yuma County Health Services District has provided 111 scholarships to Yuma County residents on a first-come, first-served basis.
Scholarship applies only to swimming lessons for Guppies/Turtles (6 months to 3 years) and Starfish (3 to 5 years).
“When you have something as important as swimming lessons, you never want cost to be a barrier,” said Ryan Butcher, communications and community engagement coordinator for the Yuma County Public Health Services District.
