East Gaston High School hired Brett Story as its next head football coach earlier this season. Story replaces JT Postell, who left to take the vacant position at Smoky Mountain High School closer to home.
Story has coached at both the high school and college levels and has experience coaching every position.
Story most recently served as the offensive line coach at Hickory Ridge High School in Harrisburg, where he was only due to stay through the 2023 season.
He is a graduate of Bloom High School in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He attended three colleges and played a sport at each: Spartanburg Methodist University and USC Upstate for baseball, and Newberry College for football. He is a graduate of Newberry College. This multi-sport athlete signed a free agent contract with the Texas Rangers during his time at college.
Story's football coaching career began after graduating from Newberry in 2010. His first high school job was as tight ends coach at May River High School in Bluffton, S.C. That was five years ago.
Between his time at May River and Hickory Ridge, Story served as the wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator at NCAA Division II Carson-Newman University in Jefferson City, Tennessee. Carson-Newman plays in the South Atlantic Conference.
Story will run a multi-gun offense at East Gaston, and his plan is to run the ball to win and throw for fun.
