Former Florida State University defensive back Jarrian Jones has been selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars with the 96th overall pick in the third round, becoming the sixth former Seminole player to be selected thus far in the 2024 NFL Draft. It's a deep draft for a mid-round corner, but Jones' versatility to play inside or outside has been a big topic of discussion, even though he's likely to remain in the slot at the next level.
Jones started his career at Mississippi State and transferred to FSU when head coach Mike Norvell took over, but initially struggled on the outside. For a moment, some wondered if he could have moved to wide receiver given the lack of depth in that room. Instead, he moved inside to become a cornerback in the 'Noles' slot for the 2023 season, finding success as PFF's No. 5 ranked cornerback in college football.
Jarrian Jones ran a 4.39-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine in March, answering some questions teams had about his top-end speed. He was busy with the pre-draft process, visiting at least four top-30 teams and meeting with many others at the combine.
The Jaguars signed former Seminole forward Ronald Darby to join their secondary this offseason, but this time they selected Jones to strengthen the Garnet and Gold in that backfield. They have needed a slot corner for several years and this filled their immediate need.
