The Oregon Ducks know how to turn heads in the transfer window. Coach Dan Lanning addressed a huge roster need by adding safety Kobe Savage, a senior transfer from Kansas State. Savage will wear a Ducks uniform for the first time in Saturday's spring football game.
A three-star athlete coming out of high school, Savage played at Tyler Junior College before transferring to Kansas State University. His teammates and coaches quickly learned that Savage's dedication was tangible. According to the Wichita Eagle, Savage would study film until late at night, so he would often sleep in the film room and wake up to study some more.
Lanning and the Ducks hope Savage's desire to make an immediate impact will translate into a move to Oregon football. You may need to bring a pillow or blanket for safety.
experience
Savage played 22 games at Kansas State, totaling 124 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, six interceptions, three pass breakups, and two forced fumbles.
Strengths
According to a report from 247Sports, Savage excels at tackling, especially in open space, is good at covering receptions both man-to-man and in zone, and is effective at breaking up passes using his recognition and anticipation. That's what it means.
Quotable
When asked why the 5-foot-11, 207-pound safety chose Oregon, Savage told reporters that he believes Oregon's defense allows him to better “showcase” his talents. Ta. He further explained, “I want to show off (my) skills in the box, in the open field, and in the nickel.''
National conversation about Savage
The consensus is that Oregon may not complete further deals, especially in the defensive backfield.
Savage welcomes competition. He recently told reporters that safeties coach Chris Hampton has developed a tight-knit group of safeties. As the Ducks continue to look for ways to improve their team, Savage brings some professionalism and experience that can only help the secondary become a lockdown unit that Duck fans will enjoy watching.
