PLAINVILLE โ Bobby Wright is a multi-sport athlete for the Plainville Blue Devils, having been a member of the football and wrestling teams for the past four seasons. He played for only the past three seasons with each team as his freshman season was taken away due to the coronavirus, but he had great performances with both teams at Plainville High School.
With his senior year scheduled to graduate in two months, Wright signed an NLI to attend American International College (AIC) in Springfield, Massachusetts, to continue his football career at the next level. become. Wright signed Thursday at Plainville High School in front of his wrestling and football teammates, coaches Tim Shea (football) and Dylan Fusco (wrestling), and athletic director Mark Fritz. His younger brother CJ, who is also a soccer player and wrestler, and his mother Shamika were also in attendance.
Playing college football was always a dream for Wright. He said it was a special moment for him to sign autographs in front of his friends, teammates, coaches and his mother.
“I'm very proud. It took a lot of work to play at the next level,” Wright said. “It's been a dream I've had ever since I started playing soccer. It's something I always talk about with my brother and friends, so I'm very happy and very proud.”
Shea talked about Wright's progress since his freshman season. Shea said he is glad Wright will be coming to AIC, which is not far from Plainville, and he looks forward to watching Wright's college career.
“I'm so proud of him. He's come a long way,” Shea said. “This senior class was the last class of COVID-19. He was here every day, practicing hard, lifting, and just falling in love with the game. He didn't know much about it. So we told him there was a path for him to play in college, and as things progressed, we explained everything to him and had some visits, but his play. That speaks for itself. He plays much bigger than he is, so I'm glad the school sees that and appreciates it, and I'm happy for him.”
Wright played left guard and defensive tackle for the Blue Devils last season and has been a starter on the offensive line the past three seasons. He was named Class S All-State at left guard last season. Defensively, he recorded 36 tackles and 7.5 sacks. He will play defensive tackle at AIC.
For now, Wright plans to continue rehabilitating an anterior cruciate ligament injury sustained during wrestling season. He said his main focus over the summer before joining AIC was getting healthy.
“I'm doing rehabilitation, physical therapy, staying in shape, strength training, and eating right to stay in shape,” Wright said. “I think the biggest thing I'm trying to do going into AIC is stay healthy.”
With his college football career on the horizon, Wright is looking forward to all the new opportunities he will experience in college.
“I'm looking forward to new opportunities and I'm coming into this with a clean slate,” Wright said. โIโm excited to play with new people, new coaches and new players.โ
