The Ohio High School Athletic Association Board of Directors on Thursday approved the 2024 football division breakdown and regional assignments at its April board meeting.
The largest 70 schools are placed in Division I, with all remaining schools divided evenly between Divisions II through VII, with approximately 106 schools per division.
One of the highlights of the team moves resulting from the realignment is that two of the region's most consistently successful teams, Badin and Winton Woods, will move up to Division 1 due to competitive balance.
The three northernmost programs in Southwest Ohio, Lebanon, Middletown and Springboro, have moved from Division I Region 4 to Region 2 and could face extended trips in the playoffs.
OHSAA member schools may choose to move up to Division I if Referendum 1B passes this spring. The results of the referendum will be announced on May 16th.
Earlier this spring, OHSAA received updated base enrollment data from the Ohio Department of Education for use in the 2024-25 and 2025-26 school years. In football, competitive balance data from the previous season is used each season to create new adjusted enrollment numbers.
The board also approved the 2024 Soccer Regulations. The official start date for practice is Thursday, August 1st. High schools can schedule scrimmages against other schools after a full day of contact practice is completed.
Starting May 15, schools may practice for 13 days without pads or hitting. Schools will have an additional five days from July 15 to complete the mandatory five-day acclimatization period if they wish.
