“When I get off work and go into the locker room, I can basically hear people about four rows behind me arguing about the music and how loud it was being played,” Edwards said. . “So I wasn’t paying attention and was just minding my own business.
“You know what a fight sounds like because the noise escalates and then you hear pushing and shoving, but when you hear a thud, that's when you get up and turn around.” Ms. Edwards said.
Edwards, the Wolverines and Big Ten all-time award holder and NFL star known for his offensive prowess, was placed on defense Friday morning for the safety and health of seniors.
“Then I saw the man, who I thought was reaching for the phone underneath the victim, grab the victim by the hair on the back of his head and try to slam him against the counter,” Edwards said.
Officials said the 25-year-old man was punching the 80-year-old man before Edwards took life-saving measures.
“I didn't know it was that serious. So the victim probably had a severe concussion in nature. But I didn't know until I talked to Detective Jacobs in Farmington. He said, at the end of the day, that’s what you do, without me intervening.”
A 25-year-old man who initially fled on foot was arrested and remains in custody, authorities said.
